Well, here we are…

It’s December 8. We are weeks away from a new year, a new decade! You know what that means!?!

It’s time for New Year’s Resolutions!

I always find this time of the year interesting. As someone a bit addicted to working out, I find the early part of the year frustrating. The gym is packed with individuals you know will not be there in a month or two. Individuals who have made yet ANOTHER resolution to get back into shape. Individuals who spend 5 minutes talking for every minute they’re lifting a weight. Ugh! Dude, just hurry up and get off that machine already!! Ok, I digress.

Unfortunately, most New Year’s Resolutions end in failure. A promise made but rarely kept. People have great intentions to start the year but let life and complacency get in the way. Are you guilty?

Well, let’s change that today. With 2020 around the corner, I want to give you 20/20 vision on a new year and new levels of success. I know you want change. I know you want different results. Success is not going to be found in joining another gym. It’s going to be found by changing your perspective and mindset.

Here are 3 New Year’s Resolutions I hope you strive to make and keep in the coming year.

Don’t take so many damn opinions.

Next year, stop taking so many opinions from others and start taking action on the ideas sitting inside your head. Opinions are like you know what?!? Everyone’s got one. Right now, your desire to seek validation from others is holding you back.

Most opinions are positioned with an ulterior motive. People love giving opinions for their own gain. Don’t let others influence the dreams you chase. Don’t let other’s skepticism hold you back from doing what you love. What’s your burning passion? Go for it, chase it, and don’t stop until you get it.

Take less opinions. Take more action!

Eliminate the “when I” syndrome from your life.

Not sure what the “when I” syndrome is? Does this sound familiar?

I will invest in my professional development WHEN I earn more money.

I will hire that new employee WHEN I sell 3 more accounts.

I will take that vacation I’ve always dreamed about WHEN I receive that promotion.

Ahh yes, now you know exactly what I’m talking about, don’t you? Yes, the “when I” syndrome is a deadly disease. Fortunately, it won’t kill you but it will kill your dreams.

You see the problem with this thinking is this… “when I” never comes. Even when you make more money, sell more accounts, and earn the promotion, you still won’t invest in your professional development, hire the new employee, or take the dream vacation. You will always have an excuse. Make 2020 the year you rid this disease from your life forever.

Invest in your growth. Invest in your business. Invest in your fun. Do it now and the income, the sales, and the promotion will follow!

Eliminate your fear of failure.

The fear of failure used to paralyze me. If I wasn’t perfect at something, if I wasn’t the best, I didn’t want to do it. I refused to expose myself to failure and, instead, let myself live in the comfort of mediocrity.

Are you doing the same?

Take it from someone whose been there…don’t be afraid to fail. In fact, embrace it. Strive to take imperfect action every single day.

Life is a continuous cycle of doing, failing, learning, and tweaking. You can’t tweak if you don’t learn. You can’t learn if you don’t fail. You can’t fail if you don’t do.

Eliminating the fear of failure gives you freedom. When you’re not afraid to fail, you take constant action. You don’t think. You don’t ponder. You don’t take opinions (see #1 above). You just do.

Make 2020 the year you embrace failure and fear mediocrity. Your goals, your dreams, and your bank account will thank you for it!

Alright, there you have it. 3 New Year’s Resolutions that are guaranteed to work if you’re willing to put them into action. Before you go chasing the next gym membership or next opinion, pursue a change in your perspective, a change of mindset. You control your future.

There’s no hack. There’s no silver bullet. There’s no pill. There’s just you, your desire, and your ability to take imperfect action every single day!
